Biography

Cavaliere Salvatore Carmine Puglia, a South African-Italian, matriculated from St Charles College in 1979 before earning his Bachelor of Social Science degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. After completing his military service as a First-Class Lieutenant specialising in weapons, Salvatore returned to university to complete his LLB.

Salvatore began practising law in Johannesburg on 11 May 1993 before relocating to Cape Town, where he established himself as a respected general legal practitioner. Salvatore made a significant contribution to South African law in 2022 with the groundbreaking case of Arcus v Arcus (4/2021) [2022] ZASCA which confirmed that maintenance orders are judgment debts under the Prescription Act, subject to a 30-year prescription period.

Salvatore has also done extensive work for the Italian Government, and on 9 December 2020, was awarded the Ordine Della Stella D’Italia (a Knighthood) for his service.

Beyond his legal achievements, Salvatore is a dedicated athlete with an extraordinary list of accomplishments, including, 11 Comrades Marathons, 24 Two Oceans Ultramarathons, completing the Ironman Triathlon on 6 continents, running marathons on all 7 continents, 23 Cape Town Cycle Tours (Argus), 3 PUFfeR (Peninsula Ultra Fun Run) completions, and 5 Three Peaks Challenge.
